Promethean is a short film created in just two days, about an augmented reality future and all the wonders it entails. Set in the year 2039, it follows the story of a young man named Dayyán Sisson as he goes on an adventure with his two friends. Throughout the story, Dayyán progresses through his day, aided by his augmented reality glasses. The glasses are a unique tool that, in the near future, humanity could utilize in its everyday life. From keeping us out of harms way, to simple acts such as informing us of interesting facts, these glasses could open up a world of possibilities. With this superior vision, emergency personnel could receive critical information at a moments notice, or help a common person avoid deadly accidents on the road, or simply help us pick out a friend in the crowd.
The inspiration for this video was born from a seed planted over a year ago. In February of 2013, two of the filmmakers, Dayyán Sisson & Brian Cesson, went to the annual NAE conference in UC Irvine. There, we attended a talk by a leading engineer in augmented reality research. His ideas, work, and technological contribution inspired us on a wild path that ranged from self operated pathfinding robots, to remotely controlled DSLR carrying quadcopters. Somewhere along the way, we ended up diving into the world of film, and completed our journey as it came full circle with this submission to the E4U film festival. Legacy is a student film created by High Tech High students, and received an honorable mention for the first ever White House Student film festival. It presents the role that technology and education play on our society in a new light, highlighting the potential of the youth of this age to achieve great things. Breaking educational barriers through technology, youth can make a lasting impact on our society, and leave a legacy more powerful than any of the generations before us.
